Emphasizing this, BOOVE to SHIMP is always tough.
My technique is putting in the bottom for each fix in the altitude preselector, and bottom+1000 in the FMS. If I nail the VS - the plane will not level out at each fix. Putting a target VS of 2000FPM seems to allow you to slow the aircraft with thrust alone, and leaving the VS as is.
