Your ability to upgrade here quickly will be based on merit and personal recommendations from our check airmen (we call our non FAA check airmen Cat B’s) Seniority doesn’t play a role that much with upgrading. You need to show that you’re comfortable with the operation and that you understand the airplane, our SOP, GOM, Opspecs et al. Also, the Captains here are responsible for the flight planning, fuel load + weight and balance for each flight. We don’t use dispatchers for that. All is done through the EFB and it is taught to you extensively on IOE.
If you are coming from the 121 world, are sharp, have a good attitude and do well at CAE + IOE - you can expect to upgrade in 30 days from you finishing right seat IOE. Some have done it even sooner. Point is, and they’ll say this to you at indoc, your ability to upgrade will depend on you and your skills vs time.
We are fat on Captains right now but that will only last for a few months. Explosive growth coming in 2020. Better to be temporarily fat on PIC’s than FOs.
