I’ve also got a B-707 and B-720 type rating from the military aircraft flown (old aircraft, but still a type rating nonetheless). I’m just shy of the 1000 TPIC check box. So another 2 year AD tour would get me approximately 800 hours TPIC, but it would extend my pilot training commitment by a year (not excited about that). OR I could go regionals, check the 121 box, and upgrade as fast as possible (hopefully in half the time with the 500 hour rule) and fly my butt off. I’m having an extremely difficult time deciding which route to go, so you can see why the 500 hour rule is important in my case.
If it were me I would get out yesterday to start building the 121 time. You'll likely build time faster at the regional if the Air Force is anything like the Navy. With your mil time I would think judging by other mil guys posting here you could get hired by a LCC pretty quick (3 years or less) but that's not first hand experience, just what I've heard lately. You might want to try the mil section, Rickair7777 responds pretty often on this stuff.
