Default Military leave and bidding

Envoy Guard and Reserve Members—-

When I was hired the Union and fellow vets advised me against submitting mil leave before the bids are awarded. I was advised this because if you take mil leave before a certain date (first week of the month before bids are firm) the company puts you on reserve for the whole month.

Does anyone have any official info on this policy?

Also - I’ve noticed the CPO now calls before bids are submitted priming me to submit my military leave as early as possible.

As drill generally falls on the first weekend of the month, If I’m telling them before my bids are due am I auto-placing myself (a line holder) on reserve?

To be clear - I’m cool with the CPO trying to best manage lines and availability - however, The policy seems to disadvantage service members.

By the strictest readings of USSERA, military leave should have zero effect on the bidding and awarding process.
