You pass training, you fly for 6-9 years, the last 2 years you don't screw up, don't call in sick too much or do anything out of the norm, and if AA is still hiring, you'll go over there. Then you'll spend the rest of your career at a legacy where you got hired after the biggest hiring wave in history of aviation.
Do whatever you can to beat the flow.
