The justice system will feel the same way. Only way to get off the hook is basically if someone else put the weapon your bag (and you can prove it). This has happened.

My family knows not to mess with my flight gear, mainly because I don't want to show up for work while my ipad is in my kid's bedroom, but there's really nothing that would prevent them from using my bag and leaving something in it.
