Maybe I did just burn four tons of fuel, but still no reason to throw out a bag that only had a few scraps of paper and a water bottle in it. I agree, you may not know what’s in it, but if I put the bag there at the beginning of the leg, I know what’s in it and if it’s still mostly empty, with no food trash, I leave it. If it’s been a few legs and it needs to be replaced, I take it out.
Common courtesy. Kind of like letting the APU shut down completely and putting up the shades if you shut down the plane so it doesn’t get hot up front.
