B737NG. Wet sock smell after first engine start. Whole crew got sick including an airport responder.

FAs/cabin got it worse than us upfront. A couple of them were out on long-term leave. One has since passed away although not necessarily because of the fume event.

Honestly people, we as a profession need to wake the hell up about how bad this stuff is. At the very least, please inform yourselves enough to recognize it when it’s happening.

I was a lot less informed about this topic back then but fortunately knew enough about it to recognize it and take action.
