That won’t continue. Just supply/demand. As much pressure as they had to increase pay, improve the flow, fix a few contract issues... that was with a minimal shortage. From 2020 on the shortage gets real. The fancy flow scheme will be seen as unnecessary by all but those without degrees. Rumor is a future flow change will require a degree to flow after a certain date. I’d advise the union use it effectively this time and not continue with 5 more years of bandaids.
On the company side, building lines that originate with DH’s to the outstation would allow quasi mini-bases as guys would just call scheduling to get removed from the DH letting them pick up the trip from home. Do the same at the end.
Could Approve 5 day trips if the first or last day is nothing but a DH. Boom, they could have the effect of mini-bases in any city at any time.
Calling to get let off the DH would release the hotel also, and return FTDT to the original.
With a little creative line building they’d save a mint in hotel costs while improving quality of life for crews as well.
