I’d advise the union use it effectively this time and not continue with 5 more years of bandaids.
On the company side, building lines that originate with DH’s to the outstation would allow quasi mini-bases as guys just called scheduling to get removed from the DH letting them pick up the trip from home. Do the same at the end. Approve 5 day trips if the first or last day is nothing but a DH. Boom, they could have the effect of mini-bases in any city at any time.
Calling to get let off the DH would release the hotel also.
With a little creative line building they’d save a mint in hotel costs while improving quality of life for crews as well.
Note to MGT - that was free, the other crew QOL improvements and associated cost savings I’ll give you for a consulting fee.
Do you really want to give the company more freedom on line construction? You should see some of the gems they have come up with lately.
Those trips that you mention, with a DH in the beginning and end, would be great if you happen to live in base and if your seniority can hold them. If not, oh boy would they suck for a commuter.
