Those trips that you mention, with a DH in the beginning and end, would be great if you happen to live in base and if your seniority can hold them. If not, oh boy would they suck for a commuter.
Point of clarity, a DH at the start and end of a trip is amazing for a commuter, or at least could be depending on where the location is.
For example, if you have a DH to Des Moines for example and your city has a flight from there, you can and get a DH directly to Des Moines. Same in reverse. I have used this exact process to get out of a non-rev commute. Very helpful if things work out right.
