There are two different things. An internal rec only is seen by a reviewer or the interview panel. If you have someone willing to give you an internal rec they can ALSO send an e-mail to pilot selection to have your application pulled and scored instead of waiting for the system to decide to flag it for scoring like most have to do. The two processes are separate and you can do one without the other. The application score is what determines whether you get an e-mail for an interview or a fix-it or hear nothing at all. Watch your junk mail folders.
I think when most people say "internal rec" they are referring to sending the email to pilot hiring.
A Delta pilot submitting the rec via airline apps is just a "letter of Rec"
