You are looking at one component of a large deal. It opens up numerous opportunities for direct flights to South America and additional domestic capacity to feed those flights and LATAM’s flights. Most international flights require feed from both ends to be successful. This gives us that ability.
The article you reference simply discusses additional MIA flying. You might also find over the next few years that some of LATAM’s MIA flights migrate north.
In addition this will also provide more opportunity to balance widebody flying. If they know they can move a aircraft off Europe in the summer to SA in the winter and keep that airframe profitable all year network will be more receptive to additional seasonal transatlantic services.
