The contract allows for far more flexibility with reserve pilots. I just saw last week a RES pilot get rerouted from a 2 day GS to a 6 day trip because they were going into on call days.

This sounds fake. Reroute protections for reserve are identical to line holders. And if they were routed an additional 4 days, they would get a big pay day. My guess is they ended the trip and gave him a 4 day right after during on-call.
