Flight time varies wildly but one thing you can pretty much guarantee from what I’ve seen, you’re not going to break guarantee. Perhaps that will change going forward since they can’t seem to fill a new hire class.

In winter you’ll do a lot of day trips as a back up in case weather delays require a fresh crew. This means no per diem, which is your only real source of extra pay while on reserve.

If you don’t live in MSP, multi-day trips are pretty much the best you can hope for so you can earn per diem and you’re not stuck in your crash pad for up to 26 nights out of the month.

26 nights!? How is that possible? Well, you have one 4 day block of days off. Usually the rest of your days off will come in blocks of 2. Depending on where you live and how late you get done on your last day of reserve out of a block of reserve days, it might not be worth going home for your two off.

Click back a few pages on this thread to read about reserve here. As it’s been said before on this thread, commuting to SY is a bad deal. Hopefully this will be addressed in contract negotiations but until it is, know what you’re signing up for before you take a class date.
