As it stands there’s only two other viable bases if EWR shrinks or closes. IAH and ORD. TYS has a handful of lines and ORD is senior. For myself there’s no way I’ll be commuting to reserve in ORD or two legging it 1,000 miles to get to work. That’s absolutely silly.
I think myself and others would be fine with an IAD base or at least something within a shorter distance. Nobody could have predicted a base that was open for 20 yrs to be shrinking or going away altogether.
This is a completely different hiring environment from 20 or 30 years ago. HR understands if someone doesn’t want to uproot their whole family to move from the Northeast to the South for a regional airline gig.. Now if someone jumps from airline to airline you got something.
