No kidding. Goes to show how bad it was prior. As a 4 year captain and LCA on the 756 I’ll break even about year 3 FO here at United, also on the 756. Probably year two if I can consistently hold a line. And retirement? 50% match up to 5% on the 401(k) with almost no work rules.

While I really enjoyed the culture there, it was impossible to turn United down. Add in the 16 on/12 off schedule and the fact that you’re still just a contractor, I couldn’t stay for my career. Amazon could pull the plug on contracts tomorrow and start their own certificate and it’s instant furlough (slightly dramatic but you get the picture). I wish everyone there the best, but it wasn’t a career destination for me. I’m just grateful I was able to get the call and I’ll always be thankful for my time there, but it’s night and day doing night freight vs what we do here. Even with red eyes our flying is much more gentlemanly than a red eye to CVG followed by a 5 hour hub sit and another 3 hour leg. Makes me tired just thinking about it.

Oh, and Amazon loves labor harmony (why we got lots of extra planes when we signed our contract) but HATES unions....so there’s that.
