I'm not trying to post flame bait here, just relaying what I've read here over and over again. Being able to be based in EWR was a very strong positive for me, but it was certainly not the be-all and end-all.
I agree, flexability is what this job is about. This is far from the M-F 9-5 many of our friends have. I wanted a Texas base with Colgan and they told me during the interview they could not promise Texas from the start. I realized this and had to do 4 months in the northeast. It was not that bad, got to fly in some new areas and got to associate myself the ins and out of LGA, DCA, IAD and so on. Remember you may get upgraded and sent to any base and it is always a good idea to have seen it as a FO rather than as a CA for the first time with a rook FO next to you.
