Back in the day I, and others, observed that sometimes the gear might come down scary-slow if the flaps were zero. Most of us learned not to do that, if not from the schoolhouse then tribal knowledge.
If I needed to plummet like a brick, I'd just slow up, flaps, gear, flaps. Then the deuce would plummet just fine.
