The exact dates for training and vacation will be known by the system allowing it to avoid reserve deficits before that month begins. PBS is more efficient because it works line holders harder, finding more ways to legally jam together their inefficient pairings into your monthly schedule, and it needs less reserve pilots to cover line holder schedule conflicts. Reserve pilots will have to cover the 4% holdback in the OT pot, but otherwise they’ll be used to cover short-notice open trips. Another result will be less aggressive trip bidding for reserves.
