If you passed a drink over the center console and spilled it, that was a fireable offense at my old ACMI.
Obviously a necessary precaution in light of things. But how freakin hard is to make center panels waterproof? It doesn't need to be a submarine, just about as waterproof as a watch your wear in the shower.
I flew another plane that had this sort of issue in the past. It was well known, and it kept happening anyway (cockpit was a bit cramped).
