Hi guys, I know commuting has been addressed on this forum but just want to see what you think as it pertains to my situation. Currently living in Maryland and looking at moving on from my regional and into one of the LCC/ULCC. I like the idea of Allegiant as it is only day duties but I wont be able to move to a base for a number of years (due wife's career). Is it feasible to commute from MD to say PIT, ABE or AVL and still have some sort of QOL? Looking on Allegiant's website it looks like they only fly BWI to ABE.
Would you say stay or jump ship and get ahead on seniority now?

Reserve in those smaller bases you mentioned has some of the best QOL in the industry IMO but you'd be flipping it to the worst by not living in base. A lot of my 12 off reserve schedules only have a couple blocks of 3 off and the rest are 2 day blocks and some singles, I do get one occasional 4 off block some months. Due to the lack of frequency/direct flights on those commutes you listed, I don't think you'd be successful very often commuting on your work days. With that being said you could very easily only be home for 2-3 full work/commute free days a month. While tolerable for a shorter period, after years and years in your example that could break a marriage. You could get lucky and get a 15 day off line relatively quick but it won't be in 4 on 4 off blocks since there isn't heavy flying 7 days a week in the smaller bases you mentioned. I personally wouldn't recommend commuting for more than about a year since the schedules are so different from multi-day trip airlines but people have done it.
