United has nearly reached its limit of 70 seaters per scope clause. Once that is exhausted, the only way they can increase capacity in the regional market is the 50 seaters. I’ve heard GoJet brass claim exclusivity in regard to the “550”. Disclaimer: you are free to debate the accuracy of their claim.

It’s likely the CRJs leaving Mesa will be refurbished as 550s and sent to GoJet. So at least for the short term there will be growth.
