It doesn't change what they get paid, but it does ensure that CAs are bought off on trips (in this case two pilots) rather than a single FO. There is seriously no downside for the pilot group on this.
It's not even like he can't hold CA here, who cares what fleet he decides to fly.
Also, please don't assign quotes to me, I never said "lots of management pilots who can't hold captain." I said that many are "honorary CA's." None of them fly a schedule they bid and hold and few (if any) fly trips that they would ever be able to hold in PBS. There is no difference there in my mind.
Any pilot that is always paired with a LCA is an honorary CA. Only ones who fly with line pilots when they are flying are actually flying as a CA. How many management pilots fly with a line pilot? I know some do, but that is probably a minority.
