Potential public and media scrutiny is a big factor if you have an incident. If you had a misdemeanor open container offence a decade ago, it could be twisted in the media as "Pilot had passed history of alcohol trouble". Just yesterday I read the media coverage of how the helicopter pilot that died with the group that included Kobe Bryant had history of violating FAA rules. People can change but that history doesn't go away and there is no guarentee how that can be seen to people on the outside looking in.
I read that too about the helo pilot.
Being FAA bust they will be on record if something ever did happen at your future employer that makes the media, "pilot had failed several tests before joining ___ AIRLINE"
Show them you're they one vs the other candidate without the record of FAA busts and let them decide, that's all you can do.
