I am not sure if it's a problem now, but I can say that it has not been an issue in the past.

SW has lots of "internals" (folks that move from one employee group to another, including into the pilot group). I have flown with people that have started as ops agents, ramp guys, instructors and even one that started as a sky cap!

I am sure that your record as a SW employee will play into their willingness to hire you as a pilot, which could be good or bad.

FWIW, I've flown with at least half a dozen folks who made the jump from the schoolhouse to the cockpit over the years, and they're all great pilots/folks.
