I’d argue that it’s significantly better to be on the street with a number than without, especially as a guy in reserves/guard. Look at all the guys that were furloughed in the early 2000s who had their reserve gig to fall back on, defer recall for a decade, then come back with a military and maybe civil service pension, along with longevity at their airline. Those people all landed on their feet, to say the least.

Good for guard people. A little more stressful decision for regional or corporate people considering the jump who don't have an easy plan B in the event of furlough. That said, I think this will pass reasonably quickly but wow what a worldwide reaction in the mean time!
Would suggest a good sequence is: not on the street elsewhere > on street w/ # > on street w/out #
