There’s quite a simple explanation to the passenger's comment.
Cause: “....passengers overrunning ticketing counters, throwing computers and wrestling with airport personnel....”
Effect: "There's no one from the company, no one is showing their face or telling us when we're going to fly....."
And that could happen just about anywhere in the world. Here -in what some consider civil society- as well, if it got out of control to quickly.
Of course, there’s another point of view.

I’ve never witnessed a mob riot. It must be a pretty scary place.
