"Two weeks notice" is somewhat of a standard. Not required... I get it. And "two weeks notice" goes both ways, in my opinion. No need to remind me that "it's business, and a lot of us have been furloughed more than once...". I realize that.
Yes, bringing them in now incurs some potential costs. But these people left their previous jobs in good faith... some of them in just the last few weeks. The company could have earned a lot of loyalty with these 30 people by doing the right thing. United should have honored their commitment to start them on 3 March. It is a blown opportunity.
People tend to show their true colors when times become tough. United is no different. We have had a 8 year stretch of growth, pay raises, upgrades and phrenetic hiring. The love affair that people thought they had with Oscar should become a little more clear soon. He's not your friend.
Keep an eye out on your fellow pilots. We will see what our “true colors” are when the premium pay dries up, lines are limited to 70 hours and the game of musical chairs starts going the other direction. Be ready with your rainy day fund...because the forecast looks like high probability of rain.
