This is a true "emergency" for United so I will take the unpopular position and say that cancelling the class 3 days out was justified. We are going to start bleeding cash and it is the company's fiduciary responsibility to prepare for the worse. If this plays out like the epidemiologist are forecasting this is going to be horrible for the airlines. Just this week the Geneva car show was cancelled and Japan cancelled all K-12 until at least April. Disneyland Tokyo is closed. Our domestic economy is all about consumer confidence and unfortunately we are the canary in the coal mine. My guess is there will be large FO surpluses off the widebody fleets as we move a lot of the widebody flying to domestic. Hence the training center will be busy with people moving "backwards". The airlines will probably all have to shrink a bit hopefully without furloughs. In a year or two we will have a vaccine but who knows how quickly the economy will recover. This to will pass...good luck to all...
