Might be a slippery slope. Big distinction between cancelling class/ stop hiring vs furloughs. It breaks a psychological barrier. If they're going to break that barrier and furlough, they may do the math and see if it makes sense to furlough a couple hundred.

Plus, 3 days is no notice, but some of those people may be able to get their jobs back vs
a week into class and they've filled your position or it's simply been too long.
