I don’t think anyone is arguing that the way United went about this is in poor taste. But we now have is a generation of pilots who have never had bad times in aviation and have no idea this is just what airlines do, when times get crappy. It’s not limited to United almost all of them did this after 9/11 and a lot of them did it in the recession. Not saying that makes it ok, but this is just what happens.

And the reality is, although those pilots now exist at every legacy, there could be those in this class who did face challenges during the lost decade. Now they're facing that again. Not everyone getting hired needs a lesson.
