Tech debt aside, red eyes would be good for the pilot group whether you want to fly them or not.
1. More upgrades, vacancies etc.
2. If built as standalone pairings they are commutable
3. Absorbs some of the overstaffing
4. Increases aircraft utilization
5. Improves profit sharing
6. Makes the airline more desirable to business travelers
7. More commute options for pilots who live East but are stuck in a west coast base.
