DL has hired about 5,000 pilots since 2014, they did not even get close to furloughing that number after 9/11 (1310 I believe) which was a much bigger economic impact after a much weaker year of profits. Another factor is DL will lose 1250 off the top of the list in the next 24 months and that assumes everyone stays til 65. In short if they furloughed to 2014 hires they would cut the airline in half and the associated training costs would be astronomical. While I hope furloughs are not coming ( I'm a new hire) I really doubt they would get much past 1000 if they did.
Very good perspective. We’ve hired 5400+ since 01/2014. If Delta furloughs anyone hired prior to 12/1/16 then seats start coming out of the 76 seat RJs. If they don’t honor LOA 9 they could be looking at parking 35 large RJs. Add in the costs of training costs of downgrades and realignments makes major furloughs almost improbable.
