I think you meant did anyone expect the media to blow things completely out of proportion (well yes). If this thing had a 20-30% lethality rare I could understand the current level of fear, the only plauge currently is the media. For context Ebola kills 90% of infected,the Black Plauge killed about 50%.
Ebola and Black Plague are scary AF.
Last I heard globally the Covid19 death rate about 3.5% So lower than the other 2 diseases. In the US that rate is lower. Probably because we have plenty of beds and equipment overall. Now what happens when the spread overwhelms the system. Likely we will see a rise in percentage of mortality. If it gets so bad (probable at this point), than the percentage will spike.
We’re in the early stages of spread here in the US. So it’s easy to write this whole thing off as blown out of proportion. In another week, what will things be looking like? My guess: ugly.
