Ebola doesn't spread very easily, it's a problem in Africa because of special social practices and some suspicion of well-intentioned authorities. Recall that it made no inroads in the US or most other places. If you actually catch it and don't get the new drug, your odds are very poor.

Plague is still out there and very occasionally people catch it from proximity to animals in the wild. In the middle ages it devastated the world because rats carried it on ships and caravans, and fleas from the rats spread it to people. We control our rodents better today, and don't tranship them in wholesale quantities. We also live in circumstances where rats and fleas don't have ready access to us. If you do get it, modern medicine gives you a very high chance of survival.
