Life here at RAH is very different if you live in base. I live in CMH, and my QOL is awesome. I do mostly out-and-back pairings. I've done one overnight in each of the past two months. I'm home with the wife a lot, which is good for me. The reason things are a lot different here for commuters is because lots of our bases are outstations (CMH, GSO, IND, BUF to name some) which often times have pairings that begin at 6am and end at 10pm. These types are not friendly with commuting. Thus you spend extra days away, waiting for a commute home. If you end up on the S5 or RW certificates, you have more commutable options in PHL, DCA, ATL, ORD. The CHQ certificate has a couple of hub bases in STL, CVG, and LGA, but the trips out of CVG are terrible. Nobody gets more than 12-13 days off. STL has the most productive trips in the system. Anyway, enough of my rambling. I'm happy here, and my QOL is great.
