UAL wasn’t sure the XJT could staff the flying. XJT/SkyWest management negotiated winding down the Delta flying early so they could staff the UAL opportunity. Delta didn’t pull it early, XJT negotiated the wind down early so they could sign other opportunities.
UAL does not want a Gojet abandonment of the 550s like TSA did with the 145s. That's why UAL is moving some 550 flying to Skywest, so they have backup. It is relieving Gojet from having tp pay the large bonuses to get pilots.
With the temporary abundance of regional pilots they figured it was a good time to make the restructure.
