There are way too many people who are desperately clinging to any piece of data that indicates that this isn't bad or that we can still fix this. Only China, South Korea, and Singapore achieved a positive outcome that was statistically meaningful. We don't have an authoritarian government, so we can't do what China did. South Korea and Singapore have been preparing for a pandemic for years. They invested in infrastructure to deal with it - we didn't. They took action when the infected numbers were much smaller - our government was still saying it wasn't an issue. We are paying the cost of poor planning and denial of science. Next time you think that government programs are nothing buy wasteful money pits, just think about how much our lack of preparedness cost.
