Just a guess on furlough:
Regardless of any relief we give Delta between now and October 1st, I think revenue is going to be in the 35%-40% range. Which means there really will be no choice but to furlough pilots. That’s the bad news. The good news is that as soon as most of the western world is vaccinated, people should return to flying quickly. Possibly next summer, I think if you get furloughed it will be for less than a year. I also think DALPA will make a deal with Delta to limit ALV in exchange to keep more pilots employed.
Still a total shock that this can be happening after how unstoppable things looked 90 days ago. This is a generational event.
If you’re junior, please start saving and lowering expenses. I feel pretty good that those who will not be furloughed will give the company some temporary concessions to save jobs. Hoping that I’m totally wrong and that a vaccine is implemented in record time and people’s confidence in flying returns quickly enough to make furloughs unnecessary.
