While there may be a VERY small group that can get mil time seemingly on demand, the reality is that those Guard and Reserve people do their required days and not much more. That usually averages out to about six days a month. Most can’t do more than that unless there is a deployment involved, either the actual deployment or train up. Those mil days end up helping out those that are trying to pick up open time because if they’re a line holder, those days end up there in OT, or if they are out for a whole month that means one person lower on the seniority list gets a line.
Most folks still aren’t going to be able to make it on 25% pay plus their normal military days.
I’m in a good position to accept the CSLOA, but the 19 hours just isn’t a decent offer. I’ll suck it up and sit reserve until they come up with something better. As far as the military alternative, I doubt there’s enough orders available to support the sudden burst of interest.
