While there may be a VERY small group that can get mil time seemingly on demand, the reality is that those Guard and Reserve people do their required days and not much more. That usually averages out to about six days a month. Most can’t do more than that unless there is a deployment involved, either the actual deployment or train up. Those mil days end up helping out those that are trying to pick up open time because if they’re a line holder, those days end up there in OT, or if they are out for a whole month that means one person lower on the seniority list gets a line.

this. Mil leave doesn’t grow on trees just when one wants it. In fact, some units are canceling drill since that’s a great way to spread this crap. It’s not essential, but go figure, us flying is.

those that can get good chunks of mil leave are already on it, way removed from all this. Not to say they won’t try to help others.
