I’m sorry for your friend, and I agree with the sick leave issue.
It would be a whole lot less expensive, in long-term lives and money, to sequester the high-risk, and have federal government fund paid sick leaves for all employers. Get sick, go home with pay for a minimum of two weeks, longer for confirmed covid cases. Other than that, telework if able, or go to work, or use your vacation time.
Waaaayyyyyy cheaper than destroying the entire country.
