That doesn’t paint the whole picture. When you say owned, most of those that are “owned” are still financed and have payments due. Only about 1/3 of JetBlue’s planes are unencumbered. The rest that are “owned” still have loan payments due. I don’t know what the split is for the legacies on the number of planes that are unencumbered, but AA says it has $10bn worth of unencumbered assets and DL says it has about $20bn worth, for whatever that’s worth. Still, aircraft rent/finance payments are a small percentage of operating costs.
