Yeah, people love to trash Mesa, for good reason. Their pay falls far shorter than other regionals and their work rules absolutely suck. And they've always sought pilots who couldn't make it at other places. Any connection there? That said, lots of great guys/gals there who picked it for a good reason and may be stuck for a while now. And as far as where the industry is now, when the recovery is complete, it will still be the same Mesa with the same issues.
Regional pilots seem to fight among themselves and argue over what company is better. They all stink. It is like walking through a barnyard arguing about the best kind of poo to step in. Most of the regionals were so desperate for pilots the running joke was that all you need is a pulse. A friend of mine applied to a couple of regionals with bases near where he lived. Expressjet gave him a quick Skype interview and he was in class 2 weeks later. One of the guys in his class had washed out of Mesa. According to United, coming out of the recovery, pilots at Mesa will still be at “the same Mesa with the same issues”, while the pilots at a “premier regional” like Expressjet will most likely be unemployed. It may be Mesa, but given the current options, their future looks much better than others.
