Any chance the company ends up canceling Airbus orders? The entirely U.S. airline industry is at an overcapacity right now. Then again, ULCCs could exploit market share potentially once we rebound. It'd be interesting to be a fly on the wall at some of the Indigo meetings right now...
My money is on them keeping the orders unless they were no longer able to afford it. Having a grip on those orders is win/win for Indigo. Either the airplanes come to F9 in the future (as we all hope) and make Indigo money that way, or they can make a pretty penny leasing them out through one of their leasing partners. Before the pandemic, the wait for a new 320 series Airbus was somewhere around 5 years from order date, if I recall correctly. There will be winners at the end of this pandemic, even if F9 isn’t one of them. I don’t think it will be overly difficult for Indigo to find eager lessors/buyers for some shiny new Airbii.
For what it’s worth, I honestly believe we will come out as one of the winners...
