A lot of this comes down to how nimble and competitive Kirby wants to be. One argument would be slice and dice down to the minimum required, maybe 5000 as nopac says. They could make that work. But IF there are glimmers of increased demand for spring/summer ‘21 (which could come at far shorter notice than the typical advance bookings) is he going to want to get caught flat-footed without being able to flex up quickly? You will ALWAYS find SWA waiting in the wings with the staff and aircraft to grab market share, especially considering they are going to want to keep what could be their first-ever pilot furlough to an absolute minimum. Almost a decade later we are still fighting to hold/regain what we lost to them in Denver during the Smisek era.
