I have flown with 2 guys that commute from AUS. One was a very senior A320 Captain that retired early...that should tell you someting. The other guy is the Chief Pilot for the 787 and he gets positive space both ways every week.
The problem with AUS in the past is it has been weight restricted due to the DC-9, and I don't believe we have more than a couple mainline flights in and out of there. I believe Compass/Mesaba are operating many of the flights now.
I know AUS is a great place to live, but you will pay the price. Best advice is move to a base.
I was in AUS the other day and i used to see the 9 there all the time but there was a CRJ-900 and a E-175 there instead. I am sure one was going to Memphis though. I have heard Memphis to AUS isnt bad. FWIW
