But they are. They're prolonging this pandemic by continuing to be exposure risks. The only way that any of this is going to work is if we unify and isolate. The virus would burn itself out to a point where testing and tracking could mitigate against a second outbreak. Now that strategy is very much doubtful.
Secondly, to the folks considering only deaths -- you are not believing in science, you are frightened with tunnel vision. The poor and working class are the ones that feel most of the burden with the voluntary economic collapse, it is immoral to shift the burden from the chronically ill and elderly infirm to the poor and working class. There is immense harm caused by the government response to COVID-19, just as gatherings and business as usual also cause harm.
We can talk about moral arguments about the working poor in the United States and how our system is so unequal that some are forced to endanger their own lives to survive in America. But all the things you're worried about could be solved through stimulus and other safety nets. People shouldn't have to die so that the economy can survive.
It's debatable whether a lot of this nonsense is even constitutionally legal.
Hey that sounds familiar, where have I heard that before. Oh this guy..
None of this changes the fact that the only way to end the pandemic is herd immunity through infection. Until there is a vaccine or treatment available, herd immunity through infection is the only possibility. There are been multiple pandemics in the last 20 years, to date there has been no established vaccine for any of them.
It sounds like you're going to get your wish. Lockdowns are lifting in the next month and most of the preventative measures are not in place. So as Trump said, we'll let it "wash over" the country. And we'll see how it goes. My personal prediction is that it will be catastrophic. Even with the "improved" antibody studies.
