Yes POTUS should have enacted flight and travel bans much sooner and to a much greater extent, just like all the leftists were clamoring for way back in January. Rumor has it that's why Pelosi ripped up the speech, because he was too liberal with his open borders mentality. Also he should have nationalized the means of production and ordered millions of additional ventilators and built millions more field hospital beds. Or something.
The implication that you have the compassion monopoly because you care about lives is extremely disingenuous. People who believe we shut down too much and for too long also care about lives just as much as you do.
You want to give up some liberty to get some safety. I get it, its the oldest political dichotomy under the sun. But crashing the world economy (many elements of this will get worse before they get better) under the gushing emotional nonsense of "if it saves just one life!" is pure insanity. Not to mention anti "science" because massive ecoomic collapses kill people too. This whole thing was supposedly to "flatten the curve" which was understandable to a degree. Now its stay locked down in a self induced great depression otherwise you don't care about people dying and it could be someone you know! Please.
That is so stupid its hard to believe its even being considered much less implemented. You win this policy round though. You're getting what you advocate for, although you will be awarded zero points for your retroactive policy recommendations for your TDS indulgeance. Nice try though. Let them eat ice cream. Lots and lots of people are going to die from the follow on effects of a depression economy that will ruin lives and businesses for many years to come from this and there will be a significant rise in self harm, drug addiction, crime, homelessness etc and that's just in the USA where we will fare better (or less bad) in those effects than many other places around the world. And that's even assuming it doesn't lead to wars which it all too often does.
But that'll be worth it too, if it saves just one life, because that could be someone you know! Any disagreement means you are heartless and only want to sacrifice people at the altar of the stock market blah blah blah capitalism is bad real socialism has never been tried etc.
I agree with you about the sancity of free speech and expression. Sadly that is under assault and we haven't seen the end of the beginning on that front yet. The right barely cares about it and the left has completely replaced it with SJW cancel culture nonsense. But maybe if we get rid of it altogether we can save just one more life. If so it will be worth it.
